Should You Choose Mirrored Sliding Doors for Your Wardrobe?

One of the advantages of having a sliding-door wardrobe is that you can install mirrored doors. Is this the right choice for you? Here are some of the pros and cons of this kind of door.

The pros

Firstly, having a mirrored door saves space as you do not need to find anywhere else to put a mirror. Bear in mind that a wardrobe door will be a full-length mirror, which can take up a lot of room otherwise, particularly if it is free-standing. A mirrored wardrobe door puts the mirror exactly where you need it - next to the place where you keep your clothes, so you can see exactly how an outfit looks on you.

Secondly, mirrored doors will reflect light back into the room. This will not only lighten the whole room but will also make it seem more spacious. They are therefore ideal for smaller rooms that feel cramped and could do with the illusion of more space. If a room does not get a lot of natural light, it is especially important to make the most of what light there is.

Thirdly, mirrored doors are a stylish solution that will go with your overall décor. Whether you have an old-fashioned or a modern scheme in your house, mirrors will simply reflect back what is already there and work with any designs you already have. You will not have to spend time trying to find a wardrobe that won't clash.

The cons

There are, however, reasons for using non-mirrored doors. For one thing, mirrored doors may suffer damage that can be difficult to repair. If a mirrored door develops scratches or loses some of the silvering, it can be a difficult and expensive business to put it right. Non-mirrored sliding doors are less likely to suffer such damage and will be easier to restore.

You may also not want the brighter and larger effect of a mirrored door. If you prefer a cosier feel to your bedroom, you may find the full-scale reflection in your wardrobe door to be intrusive. In this case, a non-reflective wood effect door might be a more suitable alternative.

If you want to maximise the light in your room and give the illusion of more space, a mirrored door will be ideal. Any sliding wardrobe installer will be happy to discuss your options with you if you are still not sure.
